help with error message on building

Ack....just building my system, Infinity NF4 Ultra...keep getting the PXE-E61 media test failure, check cable error message, followed by 'exiting nvidia boot agent' or something like that......then DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK ANC PRESS ENTER

Any reason why this would be?

The HDD, floppy and optical drive all appear in BIOS.....

is it normal to have this occur during building until windows is installed?

Any idea what it is?

Even tried booting with just the bare minimum connected, still the same deal.

Maybe just try installing windows then see what happens?

If the BIOS on any system doesn't have a device to boot from, ie a hard disk with Windows installed, you will get the DISK BOOT FAILURE. not sure what PXE-E61 failure is on that board, but it sounds like the same thing.

I've googled it, and generally it comes up when a component dies on an already working pc. Can't find any info on if it's normal while building a pc...but I had it even when I hadn't connected the floppy, HDD, optical, USB or firewire yet......

So I guess that leaves 2 options:

1)It's normal

2)faulty mobo

I'll try installing windows when I get the chance, probably Sunday night....

Being my first build I just wasn't quite sure what to expect...lol

Check your cable connections. One of them may be backwards. I also had a bad 4 pin 12v connector off the power supply once. Changed connectors, and the hardrive was detected.

So you haven't any OS installed on any of the disks yet right? What I would do is to eliminate confusion, disconnect all drives and leave just your boot drive or bootable drive attached. Go through each of them and make sure that you either

1. Can boot from CD/DVD or HDD or
2. Consistently getting the "Disk boot failure.." message.

If you keep getting #2 (hehe) check your BIOS to make sure you have the proper boot device in order (which I'm sure you've already done, but just do it again anyways and pay attention to the device detection on boot up). Another thing you can do is to switch out the cables to the drives that you're trying to boot from, faulty cables can be a biotch sometimes.

Its trying to boot from LAN. Nothing to be worried about. You can turn it off in BIOS.

The media error has to do with you not having anything for the bios to load up.

What is the correct boot order? Figure it wouldn't hurt to double check

Floppy (if you use one), cd, and ide0 or hardrive. Also, check your sata settings if you're using a sata drive. Make sure they're all enabled, including the raid option, even if you don't use it.
