edit: It's working fine with the hard drive hooked up to the raid controller. CDRW and DVD are on IDE 1 and 2. Thanks for the help.

I have 3 devices I would like to use with my epox 4g4a+: hard drive, cdrw, and dvd. I've been running the hd and cdrw on IDE 1 and 2. Now I want to add the dvd. I would like to give it its own channel, since I have 2 more available from the onboard raid. I can't get the raid controller installed in windows xp though. I get the error: This device cannot start. (Code 10). Anyone know how to fix this? My other, probably biggger question, is whether or not I can hook up a dvd to the raid channel to use as just another IDE device. I thought it could take any IDE device, but am I right? Any help with my configuration and problem would be appreciated.

I recall running into a similar problem with a Win2k system and I finally got into Device Manager far enough to where it said "This device failed to start twice in a row, and Windows will not attempt to start it again" or words to that effect. Manually starting it worked in that case, since the conflict causing the problem had ceased to exist (dual-display issues). See if you can get into there and find something along those lines. Start it with nothing attached, and if it works with nothing attached after a reboot, then shut down again and attach your DVD drive, and see what happens at the next bootup.

I skimmed through the manual but I couldn't find anywhere where it specified whether it would handle optical drives. Good luck. :)

I had been trying the installation without anything attached. I tried it with the DVD, didn't work. Then the hard drive.... magic. Windows automatically recognized the raid controller. There is one new problem though. The hard drive is recognized as a SCSI drive. Why would this be happening?

Thanks

That's how Windows views controllers that aren't built into the motherboard's own chipset. Nothing to worry about there. Sorry to hear it won't work with your DVD drive though. :(
