Hello,

My dvd/cd-rom is acting up. The weird thing is I am able to see the folders and files in my cd when I pop it in the drive but whenever I try to execute or open a file thats on my cd my comp. crashes and gives me a blue screen with the following message :

An exception 0E has occured at 0028:BF5DC204 in VxD ---.
This was called from 0028:C18363A8 in VxD scsi1hlp(03) + 00000508.

I've tried re-installing drivers and even went to re-install win98 but I couldn't because I can't execute from my CD-ROM. I was trying to use a external CDRW (archos miniCDRW) and it seems to have started after that.. I assumed its some driver conflict but then that wouldn't explain why I can't even do a clean install from a boot disk and CD.

Also, weird to me is that my DVD/CD-ROM (affrey DD-4008E) isn't a scsi drive but the above mentioned win98 error says something about scsi1hlp? I'm not sure what it is but its weird to me that the word scsi is in there but then again I probably don't know what i'm talking about...

Does anyone have suggestions or do I need to go get another DVD/CD-ROM drive?

Have you changed anything in the BIOS recently? Or switched the master/slave order of the drive?

Hey all,

Got it to work.

I think it turned out to be two things... One was that a CD writing software installed an old .vxd called scsi1hlp.vxd which I guess is used for scsi1 devices which I don't have so I just got rid of it and that seemed to have solved the windows blue screen error...It also seemed like the wires going into my DVD/CD were loose, weird I haven't opened my comp in a while...

Anyway, thanks all to the replies.
