I just recently switched my amd 2100 to an amd 2500 barton. I overclocked it to 2.17ghz. All of my other games work fine nothing wrong. But after a few minutes of playin cs it will freeze or go to a black screen and I have to restart my computer. My computer did not do this until I switched out the processor. here is my system spec
---------
AMD 2500 oc'ed to 2.17ghz
512 pc2700 crucial
80gb 8mb cache
ati 9500 non pro softmodded to 9800, oc'ed to 299 core and memory
asus a7n8x deluxe mobo, 2.45 nforce drivers installed

Do you think its because I have my processor oc'ed to much? My ram isn't the best in the world but it is running fine on anyother game. Thanks

it might have something to do with your CPU being o/c AND your video being softmodded AND your video card being o/c

I don't think it could be my video card because I lowered my cpu back to it's stock 1.83ghz and it works fine in cs. And my video card was still oc'ed to 299 core and memory. I don't understand it, could my processor be messed up? Thanks

I wouldnt say that your CPU is messed up, your OC was just too aggressive. Not all CPUs are guaranteed to OC.

Ok I turned it down alittle to 2.14ghz and it runs fine on cs. But I can go to like 2.19ghz on every other game fine. Whats up with that? Also do you think it could be my ram? Mechbgon told me that it could be my ram because I can't oc to much right now. Crucial pc2700 512, and he said that I probably got the bad batch from earlier this year. Do you think that could be it? Thanks

There are varying degrees of stability when it comes to overclocking. You've experienced it yourself, some games run fine, and some dont. I bet if you ran Prime95 for a couple of days with 3dMark2001SE looping in the background, you might be able to crash your machine. It all depends on what degree of stability you're going to be satisfied.

It could be your CPU, it could be your memory. Are you running aggressive timings on your memory? Maybe you can back off on the timings and see if that affects your OC. There are a lot of variables here, and they are not easy to pinpoint unless you have some extra hardware around.
