Help with Crossfire

I just swapped the contents of my rig to a new full size tower so I could fit a second 5870. I have the card installed, Cat 11.2 just did not work (computer locked up when CCC would load) so I'm running Cat 10.2. This morning I was playing Gothic 4 for a few hours with zero problems. Now I'm trying to play it with my Crossfire'd 5870's and the game crashes as I try and launch it. Anyone have any idea what might be wrong?

Also, I'm not familiar with the whole game profile thing. What am I supposed to do with those, download a profile for every game I use? I guess I just don't understand how the whole profile thing works... sorry, I'm a complete noob at this multi card thing.

Thanks for any help, I appreciate it.

Well, I'm going to reinstall Windows. Things just don't seem right. Hopefully that will clear up my issues.

Can anyone tell me how profiles work? Are they included in the drivers? Each game needs a profile otherwise CF doesn't work?

Yes, they are included in the drivers but you cannot amend them like nVidia's profiles.

So that means it either works or does not, whereas with Nvidia you can create the profile? I wonder why AMD locks that down?

By the way, I did some Furmark benching.

With a single 5870 I got 325 watts of power and scored 41FPS min/60max/48avg with a single 5870. With both I used 515 watts and scored 76FPS min/130max/93avg. This was at 1920x1200 with 4xaa. So at least it seems to be working I guess. But I'm still having problems with some games, time to rebuild anyway, I've been using this OS for close to two years now without a reinstall.

I would try to re-install th OS too, I almost always do this anyways so it's a non-issue for me. If that doesn't work out look for something you might have overlooked.
I am contemplating Crossfire myself right now.

Gothic 4 isnt the most stable game around to be honest. Profiles are included in the drivers. the CAPs on the AMD site are profiles they couldn't fit into the drivers before they released them.

uninstall drivers, safe mode, run driver sweeper, reinstall 11.2

I run 11.2 with the CAP's with dual 5870's

zero issues as far as I can tell, except in BC2, but only when I run eyefinity(known issue, patch forthcoming)

Thanks for the info. The thing was that the game ran perfectly with a single card, I played about 7-8 hours into it with only one crash. I went to Crossfire and can't launch the game anymore.

I tried that and two drivers (10.12 and 11.2). I was able to get 11.2 installed last night after uninstalling the current driver I had (10.12), booting to safe mode, running driver sweeper, rebooting and installing 11.2. Same thing, the game crashes as I try to launch it.

I grabbed a 1TB drive from Best Buy and am installing Windows on it now. It was time to upgrade my 640GB drive anyway. 🙂 I just couldn't bring myself to buy an SSD yet, ~$200 is still a bit steep for 128GB drive for my tastes.

Thanks for the replies guys.

are you trying to do eyefinity? check out widescreengaming forum etc to see if gothic4 even works with it if so, or maybe it just doesnt work with xfire.....
