Help with crashing, memory read errors in games

So yesterday I bought my brother's Nvidia graphics card and his gig of RAM for 343 dollars. He installed them, blamed me for everything that screwed up, and then fixed it. I find out today that I can no longer play Total Annihilation. Also, Every Steam based game I have gets a memory read error, and another error I can't see because it comes up under the game, leaving me with only one option: hitting enter, terminating the program and forcing me to restart it. This happens a good 15 - 20 minutes into Half Life 2, and at random in CS:S. I haven't tried any other games on Steam, but I assume they all have their own set of problems. Doom 3 appeared to have no problems running, and GTA SA gets an error every blue moon.

So, can anyone tell me what's wrong, or am I screwed out of 343 dollars?

I can post more info as it's needed, of course. Help me. I need to play TA. And my other games. Without interruption.
