Help with compressed drive

Trying to format a compressed drive in dos, says to use 'drvspace /format' or 'dblspace /format' command. Can any one explain how to do this?

Win95
partitioned into C: and D:, would like to save the data on D:, so am trying to avoid fdisk'ing
