help with celeron overclocking

Hi all
I have a maxtor 5 gig(yep) that i used for the last 2 yrs as my main and only harddrive, i had a celeron 300 oc 450, then i had a 366 oc 550, problem is. none of my overclockings seems to be stable enough that i could actually play FPS on it for long period of time, they always crash and now it has gotten to the point that i have to lower my hardware accelerations to basic so i can play "the sims" needless to say i am really frustrated. here is my system main specs
96 mb pc 100 ram
5.4 gb 5400 rpm maxtor
voodoo3 2000
celeron 366- 550(now back to 366)
slotket+ globalwin32 fan
abit bh6 rev 2
sblive
scsi CD-R + CD + ISA SCSCI


i suspect my main problem might be the harddrive(i have not formatted the HD at all for the entire 2 yrs and there is a whole bunch of programs on it) i think i have adequate cooling besides i always leave my case open. i recently bought a celeron 566 , please advise on what part of my system do i need to improve on so i can OC my celeron 566 and be stable. i have a limited budget but suggestions are welcome. also i looked at the compgeeks refurbed seagate for 71$, are refurbed drives any good? (my SCSI CD rom is refurbed but it worked fine for the last 2 yrs) thanks in advance for any info

You didn't say which slotket you're using, but its a good idea to use the same one as your mobo. You might want to look at

It may be that your drive is not stable when overclocked, but your problems don't sound like that to me. Maybe try reposting this with 'Celeron' in the title and/or 'BH6' to get the attention of those with expertise in those items.

If you decide to get a new HDD and are on a budget you might look for one of those that was top dog a while back but have been upstaged by newer more expensive ones. I bought a Western Digital Expert 18 GB 7200 rpm HDD about 9 months ago. It is a fine HDD and has a great installation utility with it - it is probably available pretty cheap nowadays, but is still a very good drive.
