I just got an SB Live! Plattinum 5.1, Plextor 12/10/32 cdrw, and Pioneer 16x dvd. I want the SB Live! to be able to decode the 5.1 from DVDs, but want to be able to use the Plextor's faster DAE.

Do I connect the 4-pin analog CD audio cable to the DVD or CD-ROM?
Do I connect the 2-pin spdf CD audio cable to the DVD or CD-ROM?

Neither. For DAE and Dolby Digital, the data is transmitted over the IDE cable.

<< Regular (analog) CD audio is transmitted via the CD Audio cables. >>

Yep. Also, if you happen to have a digital audio cable and a digital output on the drive, that's even better for regular CD audio. Of course, in Windows 2000, you don't even need that, since you can send CD audio over the IDE cable as well. Eats CPU cycles though.

I have my DVD-ROM drive hooked up via digital to my SB Live! and my CD-ROM via digital to my LiveDrive digital connector. That satisfies most of my CD audio needs. My CD-RW uses that Windows 2000 function I mentioned above.
