Help with BIOS

I'm not that great with computers, please bear with me....

Last night i finally finished building and putting together my computer. (asus K8V SE Deluxe, winXP)
everything was going fine, it turned on seemed to be working, windows started to load, and it was partitioning the hard drive, or formatting?...

So it was about 70% through something happened with my power strip and it lost power for a split second. When it tried to restart, it said somwthing like "coulnt load operating system" and also something about the BIOS being cleared? or something.

somehow i got it to finish partitioning and loading windows... so it on right now

So i asked my friend and he was telling me i still had to go back and reload my BIOS... and also warned me about messing with "firmware"

so i got on Asus website (with my old computer) and found BIOS and got a "k8vsed01.ami" file and unzipped it...and burned it on a CD....

im guessing i pop it in the cd-rom and reboot?
or do i need the afudos BIOS update tool????

Edit: To make a long question short-> How do I install the BIOS?

I assume that "BIOS being cleared" just means that you lost any custom settings in the BIOS and it reverted back to its defaults. If your machine can boot into Windows without problems and all your hardware seems to be working, you don't really need to flash your BIOS,.

ok i went through the setup on the Asus update CD. i guess i "fashed the bios"? but it still

When i reboot, before windows loads it says something like

"NO drives attached to FastTrak controller, the BIOS is not installed"

But NOW it gave me an option to go into setup....

I assume that's a Promise Fast Track controller card. I recommend you install the card according to the manual that came with it (as far as installing drivers and connecting the hard drives). Once you've installed it the manual should explain how to check in Device Manager to ensure you've done it properly. Make sure the controller shows up in the computer BIOS boot list.

Good job on updating your BIOS. The FastTrak controller is soldered to the motherboard, and it's doing its normal hey-do-I-have-drives-today?-Nope!-cya-bye routine. It is entirely normal for it to say exactly what it said (assuming you really don't have any drives connected to it) so don't be concerned.

If you don't want to see that message every time you boot up, then just go into the motherboard's BIOS in the usual way and disable the Promise controller, and that's that. You can always re-enable it if you want to use it.

First of all, running the Asus cd does not "install the bios" or flash it. It installs the chipset drivers. So, you probably do not have the latest bios. If your install was halted halfway through, you should have started over. The question now is, does everything run ok? First I would check device manager (start-settings-control panel-system-hardware-device manager) and see if there are any yellow ?'s or !'s. That means there is something wrong. Also, right click on my computer and make sure the CPU speed is set correctly.

Yes it does.

Some(all new models) ASUS boards have the 'ASUS CrashFree BIOS2',
which allows recovery from the CD if the BIOS becomes corrupted
either through the EZ FLASH Update or hardware issue.

Either way, it would not be the LATEST Bios.
