Help with BH6 and Cel533 not posting

I have an Abit BH6 with the latest (SS) bios.. I have been running a PII300 @ 450 for the past year or so. I bought a Celeron 533 at a computer show, and can't get it to post at all at anything other than a 66FSB. I am using a generic slot-1 converter.. could this be the problem?

The details on the chip are:

Retail box Celeron 533mhz
Prod Code: bx80524p533128sl3pz
Version R03726-004 2.0v

Someone help me please.. I'm relatively new to the process.

I have the same set up but with older Bios and have been running it since the 533A first came out @896. First make sure that the speed error hold is set to disable that is in the Bios under cpu setup. You will more than likley need more volts to the cpu 1.6 to 1.8 should work fine. Good luck

How can I tell if it's a 533 or 533A? The box says 533.. it was mfg'ed 6/14/00

I honed in on the last line of your CPU label. 2.0 volts. The CII 533a FC-PGA that most of us talk about here on this forum is 1.5 volts, .18 micron die spacing and will usually overclock to 800 MHZ. Your's is apparently a ppga, .25 micron die. ie, the older celeron. It will brobably run on a 75mhz FSB if you raise the voltage a little.
Can you take it back and exchange it? . I noticed that there is no price difference between the 2 chips these days.
BTW don't buy a retail box unless the price is the same, since you're going to have to take the retail fan off and replace it with a Gorb or Alpha Pep66 anyway.
I'd spend $10.94 and get a MS6905 Master slocket from Onvia.com - free shipping.

I'm going to attempt to exchange it.. but the dealer never heard of a 533a.. pretty good dealer, eh? Just going to get my money back, and buy from someone else.

The 533A chip is green in color and the chip itself is quite small it is build on the 18 micron size and the older celeron are larger and build on the 25 micron size. The default core volts on the celeron II is 1.5 and on the celeron it is 2.0

That chip is a plain 533 and it may run Windows at 75 FSB, but that's about it.

Yep, you got the last of the old Celerons with the .25 micron core. The difference between the old and new Celeron cores is huge. Ditch the generic slotket to and pick up a good one you can trust.
