Help with Barracuda AC-1 and 5.1 receiver

I have my AC-1 connected to my 5.1 receiver via toslink and I am not sure why, but I am not getting true 5.1 sound. The rear speaker sounds are playing out of the front speakers. I have it set to DDL and have windows set to 5.1 but when test the rear speakers the sounds come out of the fronts. I am not exactly sure what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions?
 
Sounds to me like your receiver is configured to have the surround speakers off.

Do the sub and center sounds come out of the right speakers?
 
The receiver works fine when connected to my XBOX and when I go through the speaker test on the unit every speaker provides sound as it is supposed to. I am pretty sure the speakers are setup correctly as I triple checked it when I set it up.

I don't think you can use dolby encoding from the sound card and then pass the stream to the receiver - it will also try to encode the stream to AC3. Simply pass the audio from your computer via S/PDIF out at the highest sampling rate your receiver will accept and let the receiver process the stream.

Or maybe I'm drunk 🙂

I dont believe it lets you... You can adjust the volume but I do not see an option to test the speakers within the razer panel

I don't own the razer card. I own another DDL card however. I am going to test the speaker test in vista. I'll let you know my results.
 
Seems to work fine on my computer. Windows plays sounds out each speaker individually. What does your receiver say when detecting the signal?
 
It tested it out again and noticed something which may not mean anything but seemed strange. I have two cards in my box... the AC-1 and a X-fi gamer. When I test the speakers (windows software) when connected to the X-fi it lists the speaks as rear speakers and has a RL and RR indicator by them, however it still send the sound out of the front left and right speakers respectively... When I test he sound on the AC-1 it shows them as surround sound speaker and lists them as SSL and SSR.

Either way the rear/surround sounds are coming out of the front speakers but I thought it was odd that that Windows calls them different speakers when testing amoung the two cards.

I also noticed that I do not get any sound out of my center speaker when using the DDL feature on the AC-1.
