Well a while back, i saw a link on another message board site about somewhere that said xp only utilizies 256k of the 512k l2 cache on an amd xd processor. I just went into everest, and it is true xp is only using 1/2 of the l2 cache on my AMD XP. Anyone have a link/tell me how to do it again? All i remember is that it was a value very deep(in lots of folders) in the registry you had to change. Thanks!

Make sure you really have 512k l2 cache first 🙂 I tried this on my 256kcache xp thoroughbred and it causes random errors in windows. I think only the Barton core XP processors have 512k l2 cache.

Note: This tweak is only useful for older processors with the cache located external to the CPU.

So will this work on Bartons ?

It seems to work fine on my system, FU (512k L2 XP mobile). I use a program called XP Manager, and there is an option to change the cache size to match current CPU's from within inside the program. It definately won't hurt to try.
