hello guys I have a problem with windows (who dosent?). My computer will reboot randomly and when it restarts it says that windows has recovered from a serious error and I can veiw the error log when I click on the log it gives me this error code "BCCode : d1 BCP1 : 8398E8F2 BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 : 00000001 BCP4 : F7F1F7FE OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 0_0 Product : 256_1 "
then if I click on the description of the error it says this is what it is
"C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini020505-02.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\mat\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER3F.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml" ok is there any way i can fix this with out reinstalling windows because that would be a big hassle at the moment. if there is anything else you need to know that minght help you help me then just ask

Yeah, full specs in detail would help. Include the brand & model of the power supply and the brand/speed/makeup of the memory modules. This type of stuff can be purely software-related, but it can also be brought on by an underlying hardware problem too.

You're hitting a blue screen of death and the system is automatically rebooting. (A power supply reboot would typically not even generate a minidump, which you are seeing.)

95% of the time this is either a bad driver or faulty hardware of some kind. Do you run an old version of Norton AV?

Knowing the type of STOP code you're hitting might help. Go into "My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery Settings" and uncheck the "automatically restart" box. Then the next time your system crashes, it will sit at the blue screen and you can write down the type of failure you see. (IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED or something similar).

By the way, when these crashes started happening, did anything change at all? I.e., did you install new drivers, or new software, or a new piece of hardware recently?

As a very last resort, you can post the minidump files located in your \windows\Minidump folder (assuming Windows is your %systemroot%). These can be analyzed in a debugger to figure out which driver might be causing the system crash. Sometimes, however, the data structures are so corrupted that it is impossible to pinpoint the culprit. This is especially true with bluescreens of type PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.

Kick the memory voltage up to 2.7 volts there, and see what effect that has.

You'll need to pop them up on a webserver or something if you want people to download them and look at them. :)

This is almost always a driver problem.

If the Windows Error Reporting tool couldn't auto-triage the crash and tell you which driver caused it, then you'll probably need to start yanking hardware from your machine one by one until the crashes stop. Then you'll have the culprit.

Yes! You should fetch updated drivers for everything in your system.
