help with a passworded website

I have a java programming assignment to do. The EXACT (WORD FOR WORD) assignment is on some guys website with SOLUTIONS. The problem is that the solutions part is behind a username / password barrier. Can anyone help?

The way I see it if my lecturer is too lazy to set original assignemnts for me to do, and has obviously taken the question (and solution) from the "Big Pot O Assignments" the why should I break my back to do it?

Well done Kappo! YES I AM TOO LAZY TO DO IT!! Thats what I said - If my lecturer is too lazy to set original assignemnts as opposed to taking then from the "Big Pot O Assignments" then I am too lazy to do them - Quid Pro Qo.

I am in the class because I want my degree - how many people here actually did all their own work at college - not many I would guess - I CAN do it but am too LAZY to do so.

I will "get a job" when I get my degree.

Just a friendly word of advice - when you do get a job, don't apply the same logic or else you'll only be willing to do as much work as the laziest co-worker you have. Not a good system for career development.

Kranky - I take your point and I, in general, do do my own work. It's just that in this instance it is sooo tempting with the answer just sitting out there, tantalisingly just beyond my reach. Anyway is this not a good exapmple of me implementing OO principles - ie. the reusuability of code 😀
It owuld be interesting to see what solution this other guy has for the problem and compare it with the on I am <unfortunately> working on at the moment.

hacking a site for a pw is actually pretty simple, i saw a guy hack about 100 different login/passwords to about 20 different sites, and he explained in detail on how to do it, but i digress, do your own work dude, your professor already has his degree, he is above you, which in turn means he can pretty much do anything he wants.

I can understand why you don't want to do the work, when it's so much easier to &quot;borrow&quot; it. I guess since apparently others have no integrity then there seems to be no reason to have any yourself? It's a bad habit to get into and applying the same logic in the business world can lead to very expensive lawsuits for theft of intellectual property. Slogging through the tough stuff and the mundane can be a good character building experience.

PS - I'm about as lazy as someone can be, but I did ALL my own work in college. So did all my friends. But that was a (relatively) long time ago...

I think the whole point of your professor not using an original project is that this particular one applies the concepts and/or structures that he/she thinks are important for you to be able to understand and implement in code. IMO, you're only harming yourself by taking someone else's work. They came up with their solution for it, you should come up with your own. Your grades should reflect how much work you actually put into your studies, not how much others have unknowingly contributed to them. Besides, if you know how to do it already, how long could it possibly take you to code the solution? If you're not willing to do the work, I suggest you look for something else to study.....

I suppose this means that all teachers/professors are obligated to write their own textbooks, come up with all homework problems on their own, and create exam questions from scratch. There IS work involved in creating or even finding the _right_ things to teach/assign/ask. Would you rather an assignment that applies to what you're working with and supposedly learning (that the lecturer searched for/found because s/he realized that it was a relevant question), or a half-@ssed assignment because the lecturer was too cocky and figured he knew the perfect way to do everything.

You do realize that in the time you're spending to take the &quot;easy way&quot; out, you probably could've finished the assignment much earlier? The one your lecturer ISN&quot;T checking against to see if anyone tried stealing code (plagiarism in ANY major at my university is grounds for getting kicked out...dunno about yours)...

And don't forget that there're often MANY ways to solve a coding assignment. Who says that the one on this website is elegantly coded? A creative solution?

I did all my own work during college, does that make me a nerd for not copying previous year programs like the other lazy bums?? No..hardly..it allows me to actaully learn something and as ridiculous as those assignments were, I'm thankful for the experiences and expertise I gained doing them.

Noone is going to give you a job because you have a degree, they're gonna quiz you on what you know, and from copying other people's programs because you have some twisted idea of vengence against your professor, you're definetly not gonna be the one whose gonna get the job based on your 'knowledge'.

oh no, you don't .....
let's put it this way ... if the prof is really so lazy to create his own assignments and use this one that's available on the net, what makes you think he won't compare your solution to the web solutions, to see if you're cheating on the assignments?

or, another scenario, if the prof is a smart one, he will post the wrong solution on the web and check who's been doing &quot;research&quot; instead of real work, and kick you in the back .... 🙂
