Help with 9700 Pro on a widescreen hdtv

I'm using the DVI output on the Radeon 9700 pro to output my video to my Sony 65 inch widescreen (HD capable). Actually, I'm using a DVI-D cable since I'll only be using the digital signals. Anyway, my problem is that the "desktop" is too big...all of the sides (top, bottom, both sides) are cut off of the display. When I hook up a normal monitor, everything looks fine.
I've downloaded and installed the latest Catalyst drivers (3.1) and it didn't help. I must be missing a setting somewhere.
Thanks in advance.

Id like to know this as well, my only guess would be that the resolution needs to be changed.

What you're getting is overscan. There are settings in the ATI drivers to fix it for regular s-video out, but I don't think there is a setting for DVI out. You might want to try using Powerstrip which allows some screen size and position setting changes.

During my futile research early this morning, I came across a post on some random forum that stated the DVI output from a PC is NOT compatible with the DVI-HDTV port on widescreen TV's. Is this true? Is that my problem and why I'm only getting 1 resolution to choose from (something whacked like 1520x540)?

Regardless...I went ahead and ordered ATI's component video adapter...maybe that will help.

Ooooh, bad move. That definitely does not help, I'm using the ATI VGA to Component adapter right now and it has some serious overscan issues as well. The only fullscreen mode that works w/o overscan is an "optimized" 480p mode that is basically 640x432 (thereby eliminating those extra lines that are chopped off). If you use anything above 640x480, it creates a scrolling desktop effect (where you only see 640x480 sections of the desktop at a time) which is very annoying.

I find 640x432 to be too limiting, plus it only works in the Windows desktop, if you fire up a game at 640x480, you get overscan again. These limitations frustrated me to no end so I finally ordered an Audio Authority VGA to Component transcoder which supposedly gives you better control over overscan. Hopefully it'll work better than the ATI adapter as I just can't go back to s-video after seeing how much better component is.

There are some good guides here.. Powerstrip and the custom resolution guides may be helpful.

You might want to try installing Rage3DTweak and enabling the "FPD Scale" button in the Display options.

is that Rage utility included on the drivers disk (RAdeon 9700 Pro retail package)?
If not, where would I find it?

oh, no. still at work. I'll try it at home though. I looked at the site and it resembles powerstrip (the type of configurations available)...so hopefully I'll be able to get it to work.
Thanks for the suggestion

Well....tried everything here, but nothing works...I'm stuck on 1 resolution and nothing I do is changing it. I tried the RAge utility, but didn't see anything in there that would enable me to resize the screen. The FPD option also didn't help.
