unfortunately I installed windows media 9. I'd like to use media player Classic, but it always uses windows media 9 even though I tell it to use Classic each time I open a video file, and each time I check the box that says 'always use this program'.
Open up the original Media Player (Start->Run->mplayer2), go to View->Options->Formats, and check the file types you wish to register with it. Click OK and close. As an alternative to mplayer2, you might want to check out Media Player Classic from Gabest. It runs just as well as the original media player, but has a few handy tweaks that make it my player of choice.
Ah, gotcha. Run the program, go to View->Options->Player->Formats, select the appropriate file types, click OK, and close the program. The next time you double-click a file of that format, it should open in MPC.
holy moly! I fixed it! after I went through the whole wmp9 config and then went into the options and manually unchecked all file support even though I already did that in config, and then re-configured file types in mpc, it works
