Help! WinXP Installation - PC unbootable!

I tried to install a WinXP on a computer that already has WinME.
I chose to copy all files over to C drive, it did, and first installation stage went ok.
However, the first time the WinXP logo loaded (after it sets up all the files), the computer immediately reboots. no erros, just a hard reboot.

I can't access the boot menu and WinME won't load using a Boot Disk. Any ideas?

Computer is a P3 866mhz, Via Apollo 133A (MSI 6318) mobo with 256MB SDRAM and a GF2MX400.

Note: I won't be near the comp for the next couple of hours, so please post suggestions 🙂

never upgrade to xp from anything but win2K, it messes stuff up. Even if you do get the system running, you will probably run into problems in the long run. If I were you I would back everything up the best I could, then wipe out the system and do a fresh install. If you have just an XP upgrade disk (not the full version), then I think during install it will ask you for a WinME, Win2K, or Win98 disk.

I'm thinking of the large numbers of people that bought the XP upgrade to upgrade Windows 98. Does anyone have any experiences of upgrading from 98/ME -> XP?

I picked a different folder for XP to keep WinME, yet I don't have the F8 menu, and the computer's original Recovery Disc which has ME on it cannot run in DOS mode...some recovery.
Booting from CD doesn't work for some reason. not with XP and not with the original recovery disc. This is what I've tried so far...I'll try more in a bit.

What is interesting is that while doing the same thing on my computer (although I was using Win98SE) I had no problems. And here it can't even continue the setup 🙁
