HELP! Windows XP is not detecting my DVD ROM

I just installed Windows XP and it's not detecting my DVD ROM. What is weird is that I installed XP from my DVD ROM.

Here is my setup:

IDE2: Master: Plextor burner
Secondary: Toshiba DVD ROM

It's detecting my Plextor drive, not my Toshiba.

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: Both drives DO show up in my BIOS when booting, but for some reason the freakin DVD drive doesn't come up on the OS.

did you run the update, XP already has 19 meg of stuff to DL (LMAO) but it includes DVD drive updates... maybe that'll help, I'm not sure tho, didn't look into it, but maybe it's a start for ya

Have you tried moving the DVD to Slave and the Plextor to Master? That way you can find out if it's not finding detecting the Master on that channel or if it doesn't like your DVD drive.

That's weird...my setup worked perfectly with Windows 2000. Windows XP shouldn't have any problems detecting it. Actually, no OS should ever have a problem detecting it.

<< have you checked to see if your dvd is on the compatible list? >>

Thanks for the link! Yeah my drive (Toshiba SD-M1402 IDE DVD ROM) drive is compatiable with Windows XP. Now i'm more confused than ever. 🙁

Remove the cdrw and jumper the DVD as master on the 2nd ide channel. Boot up pc. Does the OS see it now?
