Help...Windows Won't load

....I installed Linux (again 😉 ) and I need some serious help guys....

I wanted to go into Windows to do a few things, and it will not load. Lilo just "hangs" when i choose windows and its scaring the crapppp out of me.

Linux works fine without any problems, but it just won't load up Windows XP Professional (I have service pack 1 installed)

I just checked the bootloader and I have it set to these options

Bootloader to use: LILO With Graphics
Boot Device: /dev/hda
Delay Before booting Image:10
[---] Enable ACPI (NOT checked)
[---] Force No APRIC (NOT checked)
[---] Force No Local APIC (NOT checked)

I'm hesitatnt to mess around with anything, because the last time I did that in March or so, I fubared my MBR and no commands would work to restore (even using the recovering cd and crap like fix mbr was useless) what happened, and even after repeated windows installations I was still getting the same MBR not found crap~ I ended up wiping my drive clean (I lost EVERYTHING....and this time my info is more important. Yes I know, backup)

and Now i'm worried I maybe facing the same situation and don't want to make a move unless someone has an idea what to do.

To explain what happens more I choose "windows" and then the "counter" that "turns" using the -- \ | / -- just sits there spinning away doing nothing...

Can anyone help me please? Thanks

uh run lilo? What do you mean by that....

I restart the computer, I can choose what to load, or what not to load- and it'll only load linux~

and no it isn't a dell 😉

a7n8xd
512 megs of crucial pc2700 (back when they were reccomended)
g4mx420
80 gig hdd split into a windows paritiotn, a homework partition, a storage partition, and a swap partition

and adding linux would be adding two more to it, an ext2 filesystem and a swap

nothing seems outta the ordinary

Added linux *
Added linux-nonfb
Added 263-7
Added failsafe
Added windows
Added windows-0
Added windows-1
Added windows-2

the last three are what i added using the gui because i wanted to see if maybe my windows partition was on a different drive....nope, its just my homework drive and other paritions i have

okay brb for the acpi

and how do i force LBA so i can try that next? it isn't an option in the gui, so i'm wondering what the shell command maybe

ugh n/m.....ACPI isn't enabled.....

here are my options- NONE of these are checked

Bootloader to use: LILO With Graphics
Boot Device: /dev/hda
Delay Before booting Image:10
[---] Enable ACPI (NOT checked)
[---] Force No APIC (NOT checked)
[---] Force No Local APIC (NOT checked)

Oh, heh, try enabling ACPI. 😛

I'm just guessing at things. I hate dualboot setups and refuse to do them most of the time. They're just mind bogglingly idiotic, IMO.

If you haven't already, start poking around google. If I had slept more than a few hours in the past week I'd do a bit more investigation myself. 😛

hahah i did that before i came here 😉}

don't take me for a fool and assume i'd come asking without trying things first ^_^

I'm not a cluless noob 😉

hahah i knoe~ if you think you were insulting maybe you hae been up too late 😉

as for fixmbr...last time i tried that it didn't work so it makes me hesitant...and my friend is borriwng my floppy so i really can't back it up

Try the LBA thing, it seems to have helped some people. Maybe you can backup your data through Mandrake so you don't have to be 100% careful.

And tell your friend to get a job, floppy drives are like $2. 😉

If nothing works, you can mount your /dev/hda1 (or whatever windows partition) and backup your data easily. But you should be able to get it to work. You "might" be able to fix it in the windows recovery console.
