Hi

  1. Overview of the problem

  2. Whenever my computer starts up, the bootup image displays in 254 colours, when it gets past it, into the info part of the bios/dos it only displays columns of W and other weird symbols. The windows loading screen seems to work fine, except that it's also 254 colours. When it actually is about to get onto the desktop part of windows, my screen only displays noise/static and crashes 20 seconds after that.

[*]Did it work normally at one time, or has the problem always existed?
My PC worked fine up intil yesterday

[*]Is the problem consistent and repeatable, or entirely random, or semi-random?
    consistent

    [*]I already tried these steps:
tried defaulting the bios, no cigar.
Works in fail-safe mode where I'm writing from right now

    [*]My software:
    • Windows XP
    • Antivirus : none
    • Firewall : only windows firefall

    [*]My hardware
    • Motherboard brand & model : I think it's a gigabite G35
    • CPU model: E6600, slightly overclicked /w aftermarket fan
    • Video card(s) brand & model: g8800
    • RAM modules brand & model Ballistix 800
    • Power supply brand & model : Corsair 520W
    • Feel free to add more hardware details that you think might be relevant to the issue

[*]Other information that might be relevant
I have a hunch that my graphic card may have taken dmg, a power cord may have stuck into the fan and blocked it, but is it consistent with the symptoms?

Thank you for your help.

Have you even opened the case yet?

Try clearing the CMOS and re-seating your RAM and video card.

Yes, I have opened the case. Nothing suspicious. I can't reset the cmos right now, because the g8800 is blocking it and I dont have a screwdriver at me.

Yes, I'm gonna see if I can my hand at another graphic card to troubleshoot with.

I would check the video card fan to make sure it is clean and working properly sounds like the video card is overheating.
