HELP! windows media player codec problems

I've d/l some large mpeg files and I can't view them in my windows media player. I'm running win xp prof with windows media player ver 9. It would try to d/l a codec player but it says error in downloading codec player, then it would proceed to just play the file but only the audio would play. The file appears to be intact.

I have a celeron 700. Any help would be appreciated.
