Hey people,
I?ve got a bit of a problem; a friend of mine had a really old, pathetic computer. 233 MHz I think. 32mb ram. You get the point.
Now it was dying, would take ages just to get into windows and move yourself around. He asked me to help him.
So I plugged his HD in my computer. Ran Virus Scans, Ad-aware, checked the disk ect. Found some viruses, a Trojan and ad ware. Killed it all.
I also got rid of allot of unnecessary start-up junk.
So I plugged it back, booted it up. Running much better.
However, now when I connect up to the ISP (56k modem) it makes a connection, sends a few bytes, receives a few. But when I try use IE or Outlook it won?t work. It acts as if I have not connected to the internet. Wont even load Yahoo buttons ect.
Could one of the virus been in an important IE file or something else?
Please I really need some help on this one. The family is not doing well financially and they can?t afford a new comp or a professional to come in.
I really need help.
Thanks,
ICE
