Windows 2000 running on duron650, msi k7tpro2a, 128 kingston, HP CDR, hangs on shut down. Particularly after I hit shut down and after it gets done logging out I am stuck looking at a blank screen with an underscore (_) cursor blinking in the top left corner. The only way I can shut down is if I either unplug or hit the power switch.

This is very annoying. Oh, and this occurs even if I try to restart instead of shut down. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

You try the registry shutdown fix?

Head on over here

If that doesn't help, do a search on the forums here for "shutdown" and i am sure you'll come up with alot of threads.

I run into what sounds like the same problem. Mine had the same symptoms anyways.

Do you have Easy cd creator deluxe on your system?

That is what caused my problem. My burner came with 4.0 standard and I couldn't get direct cd to work in 2K. So went bought deluxe version and installed using the cd and used supplied floppy to bring up latest version.
At this point I rebooted or should I say tried.

I reinstalled w2k then easy cd several times using different strategies. What worked is install easy cd do not install the latest updates using the supplied floppy or 4.03 upgrade off of the website. Haven't had the problem since.

I hope this helps. :)
