I have question about my current HD,but it related to windown XP problem. my 40gb HD now are running in my intel 733mhz/815e chipset MB.

WHAT IF, I build a new system with AMD XP and 8kha+ mb and move my HD over there without reformatting(cuz i dont wanna lose everything on it) Will my HD get screw up cuz all the new hardwares detected? ( window problem? )

plz help

It is possible to do and some here will say go for it..Usually at a sacrifice of stability/reliability. Personally, when moving to a new system, I allways back up the important(personal) stuff and re-format. That is the best way although I HAVE done so before with Win98 and it worked (mind you both boards were VIA chipsetted even though I went from Intel to AMD. Intel chipset to VIA chipset could be real ugly). Now XP could be a whole different ball game.

I have seen someone do a 2k (and 98) move from a celeron 766 to a ddr athlon 1.4 and it worked fine. The first boot was a little hairy with the drivers and such but it did work. We did have a problem with it hard locking on bootup, the status bar completely stopped. I think what we did was go into safe mode and install the 4in1.

XP is not sposed to need the 4in1, so I don't know if those problems would persist. You would run into an issue with XP's product activation. The machine would notice that most hardware has changed and need reactiviation. That would be a quick call to MS, but not a big deal.

Just reformat it ... U'll save yourself alot of time and frustation in the long run. Besides, most people that try that end up reformatting after a month or so cause of weird issues.

XP will not evern startup for you. You will get system protection errors. and will have to format anyways . so back up. I have tried this a few different times at work now and have not beed sucessful yet.
