Okay i just installed win2k and windows automatically detected and installed my Sony G400 monitor as a PLUG AND PLAY monitor and my nvidia tnt2 ultra.

So, i install my Sony G400 monitor drivers from a disk they provided me that has all the color profiles on it and win2k now recognized my monitor as the SONY G400 monitor.

THEN, i install nvidia's win2k drivers and when i rebooted, windows recognized the monitor as just a " DEFAULT MONITOR " AND I CAN'T ACCESS THE "PROPERTIES" OF this monitor!!

In addition, my screen size has changed from when i was using win98se just this afternoon. i am using the same refresh rate and resolution and i haven't touched my monitor settings, so i don't know how it would change. the screen size should be the same. help!

Do it thru device manager and reinstall the Sony G400 drivers.

Can't find it in device manager. I assume it would be under monitors. I tried looking in other categories.

Right click on my computer, all the way at the bottom you'll see properties, click it. Then hit the hardware tap, you should now be able to see device manager. Click it then go to monitors click the +, then right click on the monitor listed and reinstall driver from there.

What does it say under display adapters? And if it's not there try using the hardware wizard.

Just my NVIDIA TNT2 ULTRA. Funny thing is, i tried to add a monitor with hardware wizard...the choice wasn't there. i'll try again to add it.

What happens when you reboot? Does Win2k try to install a monitor, because it should at least say Plug and Play monitor in device manager. Weird.

I know, it is quite weird and annoying. I tried rebooting several times. the only things i can think of to do right now is

1. shut down my comp and turn it back on, then see
2. change to a generic pci adapter, and reinstall video drivers
3. switch monitors and see how win2k reacts.

You may also want to try going into computer management and trying there. But if it doesn't show up in DM, I don't see how it will there either.

Which win2k video drivers did you install btw?

Nope.

Are you using the Det3 drivers? If you're using the latest Det3's, try reinstalling them. Did you download the zip file, or .exe? If that doesn't work try installing an older Win2k driver. If that doesn't work I don't know what the hell will (haha).

GLuck!

Doh, well before posting here i tried going back to the windows' version of the nvidia drivers and nothing changed. so i think i'll do a full reinstallation by deleting some stuff form the registry too and then reinstall the drivers. this is such a strange problem.

BTW, i am currently using 6.31 win2k drivers from a zip file.
