I just installed a second hard drive in my system. My primary hard drive is partitioned (C: & D:). I also have a CD ROM and a burner (E: & F:) My bios has recognized the new drive and everything seems OK there. When I booted up I assumed that the CD ROM and burner would be bumped back a letter and the new drive would show up ... that didn't happen. The new hard drive is not displayed in My Computer or Explorer. Does anyone know how to fix this problem. Thanks.

did you fdisk it and partition it? when you do, the primary partition on your second drive will probably become D, then things will be lettered from there on down.

Actually I didn't format and fdisk it warlord ... I have some data on it that I want to retain. I assumed the system would bump everything up??

Is the drive formatted to NTFS? Were you running NT or 2000 on that drive previously? If so, Win98 can't see NTFS formatted drives.

Also, does your computer show the other hard drive at startup during the POST?

I am experiencing a similar problem. I'm running a 40GB Maxtor and a 17GB Western Digital in a master/slave setup on the primary IDE channel. My board is an ASUS A7M266 (AMD760). The 2nd hard drive is not being assigned a drive letter in either Windows or DOS, but is recognized at start up and in the control panel(or through fdisk). If I remove the Maxtor from the primary IDE channel I can get the WD assigned as the C:\ and the Maxtor as the D:\ in DOS, but only the Maxtor shows up in Windows. Prior to my upgrade I was running the WD with a different drive in the same configuration on an Intel box with no trouble. Both machines used Windows ME. I have a significant amount of data on the WD drive and am unwilling to format it. Can someone give me a better option than than the extremely long process of xcopy-ing all my data(16GB) to my Maxtor in DOS and then reformatting?

Thanks for any help.
