Help! Will not boot? What is it?

I have a fatality A9N 32X. A couple weeks ago, it got to where it would not shut all the way down. Do all except power off. Now when I push the power button, it comes on for a second, then powers off . Not long enough for the it to load any thing. And the power button will not work till you unplug it, wait a second, then plug it back in. Then the power button works, but just a second then does the same thing?
Is it the power supply or mother board?

It could be a lot of things, your going to have to go through a series of diagnostics to find out the exact cause of the problem. Have you tried resetting your CMOS battery?

Yep, tried that, cleared cmos too. changed out ram, reseated all boards in pc. I even took the cpu off and reseated it. Unplugged all drives but made no difference. Thinking its the power supply. But not sure yet. Going to try another power supply next. And other ideas?

any caps busted? almost sounds like a short, but that can't be it as it was working fine prior to this

I looked it over pretty good, did not see anything busted or shorted out. And I have not added any usb things. Not sure what else to try except buy another MB.

Possible overheating? If something happened to loosen the heat sink or, the thermal compound/tape died, the mb may be shutting the system down. It only takes a second or so for the heat from an uncooled cpu to hit critical.
