For some reason my aunt's b/f decided her work laptop was good for throwing, and she's begged me to salvage what I can from it. It was a Dell Latitude... I can tell the LCD is a complete loss, and the majoriy of the damage to the base seems to be on the left side where the power connector, and the PC Card slot are. So far I can get it to light up and sort of beep, but it powers down just as fast. I have it hooked to an external monitor, which starts to get a signal, but loses it before anything shows up. If anyone has an idea on where to find info on this I would be extremely grateful.

You're aunt's notebook is screwed. It sounds like the motherbaord must have been cracked or something. Replacement LCD's are a fortune and motherboards are impossible to find. Having it repaired would cost more than a new notebook. The only thing I can think of is ebay. I took a look over there and I saw that there are some latitude motherboards up for sale. I also have a 14" lcd I could sell you but it's probably the wrong model for the notebook in question.

Your aunt's b/f ought to get some anger management counseling or grow up, since his inability to control himself just cost her a laptop. All the king's horses and all the king's men ain't gonna put that Dell back together again. It's a total loss.

Your Aunt's first order of business should be getting rid of the b/f.

if your lucky you might be able to salvage the hdd, and the ram, the cd drive (if its modular) adn the battery
the hdd would be useable with a converter, Check that well known auction site (you know the one) for them. The memory,cd, and battery could probably be sold at the same place... but thats about it...

Well thanks for the cheery help :p After some work I got it to boot once, but nothing beyond that. The CPU and RAM seem to be in good working order, but I think the shock killed the HD, and shorted something on the mobo. Oh well. :(

db: That's the conversation that got the laptop killed.
