HI,

Please Help! I have used the latest sandra software to benchmark my dual western digital 7200 rpm 80GB special edition hard drives on raid 0 with a PCI dual ata raid 100 controller by highpoint and my benchmark is slower than a single hard drive! What the hell is going on ? I notice that one is running at ultra DMA 5, and the other at Ultra DMA 2. I have checked the cables and updated to the latest driver but the performance just sucks! Anyone else with this problem My bench is in the 25's range.

here is my rig:

Antec performance plus silver mid tower case
Antec true power 480
asus P4PE full version, bios 1003 beta 2
intel 2.53@2.85, 1.525 V in bios, 1,6 in asus probe
1 stick 512MB corsair XMS PC 3200 DDr 400 ram.
(2) western digital 80GB 7200 RPM drives, special edition
ata 100 raid PCI controller card with highpoint chips. Onboard SCSI disabled.
turtle beach santa cruz
Gainward Geforce 4 ti-4200 with DVI& tv out
Lite-on 16 X DVD rom
Lite-0n 48X cdrw
Klipsch Promedia 2.1
Logitech MX 700
Logitech elite Keyboard
Hp 5550 printer
4 additional 80MM case fans

Have you tried it with the built-in raid turned off?

Why use an add-on when you can use on board?

I think you should look into this further, both HD should be UDMA 5. If one of them is being detected as UDMA 2, raid 0 will only run at the slowest of the two.

How did you hook them up?

built in raid turned off. Add on card being used because the P4PE only supports 1 parallel and 1 serial raid channels or 2 serial and serial hard drives are not out yet so I bought the parallel add in card and disabled the onboard raid until serial ata drives hit the market. The card i'm using is a highpoint rocketraid 100, 370A with the latest bios and drivers. I checked the cables and the jumpers and all is good. but the damn thing registers as ata 33 on one of the drives and ata 100 on the other. Pissing me off!

Thanks for the reply. Each drive is hooked up as a master on it's own channel on the raid dual channel card .

How do you know that one of them is running DMA 2? Where exactly did you find that info? RAID BIOS or Windows?
