Here's my setup:

Gigabyte GA-7DX
Athlon XP 2000+
512mb DDR Memory
40gb WD 7200rpm HD
80gb Seagate 'Cuda 7200rpm HD

i ran the File System Benchmark from Sysmark 2001 and here's what i got:
the WD got just 13723kb/s, and the Seagate was even lower
both are on their OWN IDE CHANNEL (i have a PCI Card for the DVD/CDRW Drives)

any ideas why this is happening? shouldn't these speeds be faster?

I use HDTach to see if my drive is messing up. Sandra read my 80gig NTFS WD 7200 at around 20k and I know better. Right after I Speeddisked (after clearing all my old recovery files) I managed to get it to read at 25k.

HDTach says it averages 40k with 13ms seek and 83k burst, which is more or less what I would expect.
