Has anyone realised the question was WHO invented white paper, and yet your all still answering it as if it were WHY was it invented.

Nature did - although wood or other pulps used to make it take on more of a yellowish in their natural state. Only recently have humans begun to bleach paper to make it truely white.

Well in the modern printing process you have subtractive color mixing (iow - you cannot make white with the toner) so the logical substrate to acheive the highest range of colors is white.

Does the OP realize that paper has been around for thousands of years? Paper is *not* a new invention...
