I'm having trouble deciding between nVidia's nForce3 mobo LINKdrivers: Version: 5.11 Release Date: November 2, 2005 WHQL Certified (35.6 MB download)

or,

using Shuttle's chipset LINKdrivers: Version: CD640 Update: March 30, 2007 (10 MB download)

And,

I'm potentially mildly embarrassed that I don't know if "chipset" = "drivers". So maybe I need them both?

Preemptive thank you: Thank you!

If I may sneak in a bonus question regarding BIOS; LINK The top one there, the SN95S3XC are the latest - those should support the new CPU I picked up: Athlon 64 X2 4200 LINK ... ... the bios below the top is about 14 months older but does say "Athlon X2 CPU code" - should I choose that one instead or will the newer one incorporate all the older data? I assume so but it's probably better to ask than work on my limited assumption.

Again, thank you!

Use the latest BIOS.
Chipset driver is a type of driver. You should also need graphics card/onboard graphics, sound card/onboard sound, and possibly a ethernet driver.

As far as your original question.

I quickly downloaded the shuttle driver to see what is contains. The readme file says:

This nForce Win2K/XP driver package contains the below components:

Audio driver version 4.42 (WHQL)
Audio utility version 4.44
Win2K ethernet driver version 4.16 (WHQL)
WinXP ethernet driver version 4.16 (WHQL)
Ethernet NRM driver version 4.42 (WHQL)
Network management tools version 4.42
GART driver version 4.36 (WHQL) with updated uninstaller files
Memory controller driver version 3.38 (WHQL) with updated uninstaller files
SMBus driver version 4.04 (WHQL) with updated uninstaller files
Installer version 4.46
Win2K IDE 2.6 driver version 4.46 (WHQL) with updated uninstaller files
WinXP IDE 2.6 driver version 4.46 (WHQL) with updated uninstaller files

Now according the the Nvidia site, the Nvidia drivers contain the exact same files, so I say just go with Nvidia.

Ah, that was an intelligent approach. Nicely done. Thanks! I'll go with the Nvidia drivers. I've got the video driver; was hoping the files in the download, ie the audio driver and the ethernet driver, would take care of those drivers. (Had a problem I couldn't fix a few years back regarding that computer's internet connectivity being abnormally slow so I installed a NIC (?) and I was able to get the proper speed from my internet. So, maybe those ethernet drivers aren't the drivers...but it seems likely they are so I'll head that direction.

Again, thank you very much. Hope the answer didn't cost you too much in the way of time.

Yes, well, seems I have some computering to do :)

ttfn,
