I believe the address book and e-mails are stored in files. I know the inbox folder file is called inbox.mbx, inbox.dbx, inbox.idx... same with any other folder that you may have e-mails storned in. If I remember correctly, the address book file has an extension of .WAB, you may want to try a search on your hard drive for *.wab.

Also, you may want to give this file a try: http://tde.tucows.com/system/preview/195644.html. It is called Outlook Express Backup 3.0. Here is the description:

"This utility is designed to create a backup or an archive file of your e-mail messages stored in message folders by Outlook Express 5 and 6. This program can back up your e-mails to an EXE file and can also support multiple identities."

Mail files and Address Book are kept in entirely different locations.
For mail files you will want sent.dbx, deleted.dbx, drafts.dbx and/or inbox.dbx.

I'm not on my WinXP machine right now, but they are located something like:

C/documents and settings/(user)/identities/etc.......as the above person said, do a search for dbx files. Then copy or drag these things to a safe location after which you can "import" them back into Outlook Express when you have things fixed. I back up my mail files by copying these things periodically or exporting them onto my D drive.

Address Book is a little easier to find and manipulate, its somewhere in C/Program Files/Outlook Express.

Email me me if you have any questions.

OK, I'm home now. Here is where the address book is:

C:\Documents and Settings\(USER)\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

And here is where Outlook Express keeps the mail files:

C:\Documents and Settings\(USER)\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{C176382E-.....-.....-.........-...........}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
