I know its a n athlon cuz it says so. But what speed? I have logged on to AMD site but I'll be darned if I can navigate to anything that resembles help to identify a processor.

it has these numbers on it.

A1200ams3c
axia0121mpmw
95642260135
1999 amd

1.2 gig? What bios settings to set if I'm using it in an Asus A7N266?

Thanks

😱 I'm not familiar with the core markings off the top of my head but IIRC AXIA relates to the original 200FSB (100x2 for DDR) Thunderbird Athlon and 1200 would indicate 1.2ghz which would sound about right. This is good news (if I'm right) as this is a very compatible CPU which should work in ALL SktA mobos, plus it's pretty nifty too! In any case all SktA mobos should automatically detect the CPU ID, voltage and multiplier so plug it in and find out!

As I recall, the 'c' in 'A1200ams3c' means 266MHz bus. Should be 9*133.

I suppose you could boot it with default speed and see what you get for a multiplier, 9 or 12. I'd bet it's 9.

😉 Yup, safest way would be to select 100FSB (2x100=200) and if it comes up with Athlon 900mhz then you have a 133FSB (266) CPU, being an Athlon 1.2ghz it should work in any mobo which supports the 133/266FSB which is still nearly all SktA.

Thanks. It detected as athlon 1200 .It has a PC1600 128 stck in and is booting now and installing the Os. I'll know in a bit if its going to be a bad setup. Need to task it further after the os is installed.

😉 So since you're using PC1600 I take it it's running a 100/200FSB so 12x100mhz=1.2ghz. PC1600 should allow for small FSB inceases esp with high/slow latency settings but in any case the original Athlons are easily unlocked enabling 13x or 14x multipliers, you should hit about 1.4ghz which ever way you o/c, esp with a decent cooler.

Bios in the A7N266 says its a 1200 and the ram is set at 133 x2(DDR) hence 266. It's working fine and actuallyrunning a fresh Win ME OS. The OS willsuit the customer fine. They are novices and this is a clean install. I am running norton 2002 system works on it, fully updated and w2k office small business fully optimized and updated. It is doing very nicely (surprising even a skeptic like me 😉 )
