Kids aren't an investment. My parents will never see anything close to what they spent on me before they die and I expect when I have kids not to receive any meaningful return on investment from them either.
Your parents should have taught you how to play hockey. Spend a few hundred dollars on skate, pads, etc... After a few years, if you didn't look like you were going to pan out, they should just just drop you off in the wilderness, letting fate decide whether you live or die.
.... at least that is how people should be raised. That really lowers the costs of raising kids.
