Help! Weird 4G4A Problems

I just got my P4 1.6A system put together with the Epox 4G4a board running 2K. For some reason, it won't detect the new PCI devices I put in. The only devices I have tried were two 56K Modems. The computer would detect the modems like normal and then I would install the drivers like normal. However, when all seems good, I get this weird "data is invalid" error and installlations don't go through! I really have no idea what to do.

Any suggestions? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Did you try installing the modems one by one? I have the same board as you with a 1.6A as well and everything was smooth sailing for me but I only installed a Santa Cruz. Hmm... did you try different PCI slots?

Well, one of my modems is a pretty good V.92 hardware modem. I tried installing that and got the "data is invalid error" I think switched PCI slots once and got the same thing. I then repeated the process with a 56k winmodem. I got the same errors unfortunately.

I'm really stumped with this one. I hope someone has had experience with this!

Did you try to install the modems manually through add harware in control panel?.

Make sure your AGP/PCI is locked. It is important you enable this when overclocking. If this does not work, set everything to default (turn off overclock) and see if the devices are installed properly.

I get the same errors when I manually install the modems unfortunately.

Also, I installed the Intel INF chipset drivers off the CD. I just clicked it and it installed, then it asked me to restart my computer. Am I supposed to do anything else after this?

Oh, I tried installing a third modem that I just found. Still the same error. "Data is invalid". When I first put the computer together, I overclocked it a little, but then brought it back down to 100 MHz FSB/PC2100/1.6A so I would be trouble-free while setting up the rest of my system. Do you think this could be the cause of my errors even though I brought everything back down to regular speed? Thanks!

I have a 4g4a+ and run a 1.8A @ 2.4, super stable so far, haven't tweaked the voltages or anything. The only problem so far is that my Promise Ultra100 IDE card is not getting recognized. I have installed and re-installed the drivers but it's not showing up. I haven't exhaustively tested it as the current 4 channels are sufficient but I'd rather run 6 master devices. I will play with it some more. Running locked PCI/AGP bus.

If you overclocked your system before you installed windows it can corrupt the data.If you did,try reinstalling windows at stock speeds.

Nah, I didn't overclock till I installed Windows. Yesterday I re-installed the drivers from device manager and now all is fine.

I personally overclocked a bit after installing Win2K. I soon brought it back down to stock speeds. I think this weekend I will reformat again... nothing seems to work.
