My friend got the blaster worm a few days ago, she then downloaded the fix from symantec, and did the windows update. But now, she cannot surf the web at all. It is slow to a crawl, only aim and file transfers work. It seems like she may have gotten the welchia/nachi worm, but norton does not detect anything at all. She updated her virus list and everything but she still can't surf the web. TIA

You could install Zone Alarm on her comp and find out what programs are attempting to use all the available bandwidth.

Is she on university connection? If yes, then most likely the admin has disabled her network card's MAC. If no, better ring her ISP to find out.

I have a friend's PC with the same problem. I cleaned the virus used the patch and all is clear but when I use the internet it works for a few minutes and then it stops.
I have to reboot to get it working for another two minutes. I have all the latest patches in Windows XP SP1 Home
The norton does not pick up anything.
Any ideas??

Format and reinstall windows. That'll teach her to pay attention, use a $25 router, keep her antivirus updates current, and stop clicking on email attachments.

she got a router, and if you don't already know the worm does not enter you computer thru email attachments.
