I've got a stick of Crucial 128mb pc2100 in this Shuttle AK31a w/ a 1.1ghz Duron and am wondering if there might be any compatibility issues if I add another stick of PNY 256mb pc2100 in. It's been awhile since I've worked with this computer and I remember reading about memory issues occasionally with this board. Thanks!

I would go with another 128 meg crucial, or two. Different brands of memory can cause windows bluescreen errors.

Would you be buying the PNY from a store where it would be easily returnable? If so and you have verified returnability, go ahead and try it. Put it in, see if it boots your OS. So far, so good. Then run extended cycles of Memtest86. So far, so good. Run everything you might ever throw at it for about a week. If all goes well, nothing different than before except the added performance from the additional memory, keep it. If not, take it back. Simple... Of course, don't do anything dumb like cutting out the UPC label for a rebate until you're satisfied with it.

p.s. Office Max has a good deal (after MIR) on Kingston 256MB DDRthis week. I would go with that before PNY.bh.

just a question about memtest since i've never ran it before....i left it running on my own computer for 7 hours and it looks like it ran 11 times (?)...no errors....it just keeps looping right

so i guess things are looking good for me?

yup, it just loops until an error happens or you shut it down. That's so you can easily test to failure. it's been a while since I used it, but I think you can tell it how many loops to run and set other parameters.

well the pny 256 + crucial 128 booted up fine and is running windows 2000 well so far on the AK31a....i think the problem I heard about with that board and memory is when you use all 4 dimm slots.

Thanks guys!
