Help w/ Radeon x1900xtx blue screening

hey guys - wondering if anyone has any sage-like advice for me on this problem! 🙂

i was having a difficult time getting my various displays configured correctly with the Catalyst Control Center. finally i could not even set the resolution correctly, so i began to uninstall the drivers to get a fresh install in there. however, during the uninstall, setup froze and the computer had to be restarted.

now, i can't get into windows unless i go through safe mode. if i let it boot normally, right after the "welcome" screen i get a PFN_List_error blue screen and have to restart. i went in (in safe mode) and totally cleaned the HDD and registry of anything ati-related after attempting to uninstall the drivers. so it's all gone. still the same problem. then i tried installing the drivers again, and it said that setup did not detect the right hardware for the driver. however, it IS the right driver. setup recommended that i install a standard vga adapter first...

so it's still blue screening and not working correctly. i've reset the bios, checked the memory timings, and even pulled out my video card and reinserted it to make sure. same thing keeps happening. do you think my video card is bricked? or what?

sorry for the long post. some technical advice would really help me out! thanks!! 🙂

Is the PSU of good quality and dose it have enough power for 1900XTX?

Is the RAM good?, dose it pass Prime95?

If the RAM and PSU are indeed good I would suspect the video card is defective. It wouldn't particularly surprise me; I've had more RMAs for high-end video cards then everything else put together.

ARE YOU OC-ing your machine?

try to boot into safe mode, to install the standard VGA drivers, then after you are back to Normal mode install the regular catalytics drivers

well the PSU is good..... 550w and working correctly......... the RAM is corsair ram that i've already RMA'd once and since then it's worked fine (until now?). and no, not overclocking my machine.

but how would i go about installing standard VGA drivers? i'm sure it's really simple, but i don't know where to start...

from Device Manager
right click property on the video card
then change the driver manually and pick Standard VGA

you might need the WinXP CD handy

but make sure you can go all the way into safe mode first

Define "good".

If it's a 550 watt Seasonic, yeah that would be very good. If on the other hand it's 550 watt unit that came bundled with a $30 case that could very well be the problem.
