If you've got the AS5, you might as well add it the first time. The thermal pad that comes with the stock HSF is actually quite good, but I would still expect the AS5 to perform slightly better.
Just makes sure to clean all the paste off reall well. I just used rubbing alcohol on mine and it worked fine.

thanks ike. I read somewhere someone said to NOT use rubbing alcohol tho to get rid of the thermal pad.

Maybe they just meant use isopropyl instead. Rubbing alcohol is just isopropyl alcohol with water added for dilution normally to 70%. I've used rubbing alcohol many times with zero problems, as have many others.

You can purify 70% Isopropyl with regular table salt and a seperatory funnel.
