Help w/ buying another 1GB of RAM

Mr Bob

Golden Member
I currently have 1GB (2x512MB) of some unknown RAM that I purchased at hardcorecooling back in Jan of 04. hardcorecooling's website seems to have been under construction for the longest time, and I would like to add another GB of RAM onto my current computer. Here is a link to the RAM I purchased awhile ago: http://web.archive.org/web/200411130445...dex.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=597

My motherboard is an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe

I do a lot of Photoshop/Movie editing work, and would like some more RAM. Any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks,
- Bobby

[edit]I just realized that the ram in the link above is incorrect. Although I ram I have is very similar, it is PC3200 and 2x512MB sticks.[/edit]

Get CPUID or CPUZ or whatever the heck its called now. There is a memory portion that will tell you what mem you have (if is coded in the mem) if not it should give you all the cas and timings, once you have that info shop arounf for memory with the same specs and you should be ok.

why dont you just buy 2 x1gb and get 2 and save the slot for another 2 x1gb.. later on, when you need more, you'll be buying memory all over again.. ditch the 512 meggers..

- I tried CPUZ, it didn't show the serial number or model number for the ram, instead it came up with 0000000000, and then in another spot it was FFFFFFFFFF.

" why dont you just buy 2 x1gb and get 2 and save the slot for another 2 x1gb.. "
- Because I would end up spending an extra $125 that isn't needed...

Nah, you'll be fine with just adding another 2x512MB of RAM. By the time you need more than 2GB, it'll probably be time to upgrade your entire system.

I doubt I will need 4GB of ram for a loooong time lol. I barely need 2GB, but I do a lot of photoshop work and they can take up a lot of ram.

Still wondering about what ram to buy... 🙁

You could also try Everst (Home edition). If you do, look under Computer>Overclock. It'll tell you the RAM manufacturer, timings, etc.

That only works if the RAM is recognized. CPU-z cannot recognize my memory and says my timings are 3-4-4. Of course that is wrong...

Why do you even need 2 gig of RAM. It would seem there are some other things that could use upgrading first. I certainly wouldn't be using a Raidmax PSU.

Save your money and get something you need.

Try get another 2x512mb of the same stuff which when running 4x double sided DIMMs actually provides a good bandwidth boost on Intel systems. Everest Home Edition or Sandra should be able to find the brand/details of the RAM. Last resort would be to look in the case and read it off the label.

Maybe you can help me, I don't see the manuf.
