Help w/ ATI Radeon 64MB DDR product on Egay...................

I was perusing through the Egay auctions for a video card, when I came across about 23 auctions selling the exact same ATI Radeon 64MB DDR board. They claim the true value price is about $150, and that they're the only authorized resellers of "Engineering Sample" boards.

ATI Radeon 64 MB DDR

What my question is, is this board worth it? I'm ONLY looking for max fps in my games, no multimedia stuff like TV and stuff like that. How much is this board actually worth? Can anyone give me any information that will help me make a decision on whether or not to buy this board? It seems too tempting, as the lowest price on an OEM board is $265 on ibuyer.net Thanks!

Id watch out for engineering samples. These are usually "beta" samples, and are not always up to spec. These get sent out before they go retail to reviewing people, and although many of them might be fine, many other might have bugs in there, have slower memory, or slower clock speed. Id probably never buy an engineering sample unless it was far under the normal price or a new, or even oem, version.

If I was you I'd jump on this with both feet. I already bought one from this guy. He is really nice. I paypaled him some of the money and he even sent out the card before the rest came in moneyorder. I didn't even ask to cross ship.

What was really cool was I won the auction at $165, I emailed him and he even said that it would be fine if I paid him $150 plus shipping. I've never heard of anyone taking less after the auction is done. He also is giving a personal 90 day warranty.

These are actually OEM 64meg Radeons, they have the "Engineering Sample" sticker to define that there is no support or warranty. They are clocked the same as a retail 32meg, 166/166. Many have said that they easily OC to 183/183, like the retail 64megs are.

The only difference between the retail and OEM 64megs are is the ram (5.5 for retail,6 for OEM). Also there is no VIVO.

What I would do is contact him directly at his email and just pay his asking price + shipping ($160 total.)This avoids having to F-around with egay.

Then you probably want a GeForce2, they beat Radeons in raw speed.

Check out the FS/T there are some GeForce2s there for that kind of price.

Not that that is a bad price on the Radeon or anything, just from what you said I think a GF2 would suit you better.

Thanks for the tip! I think I just might e-mail him and see if he can send me a card at that price. Do you think that at $150, this is the best card at this price?

Noriaki:
What amount of RAM on the GeForce2's? and aren't Radeon's better at 32bpp than the GeForce2's?

Thanks!

Well to answer your first question. Of course!... That's why I bought one. 🙂 I sold my Geforce DDR and was going to buy a GTS, but looking at all of the threads from people who sold their GTS's and bought Radeon convinced me.

Plus I'm planning on buying a large trinitron monitor, and the Geforces have a known problem with them.

The GTS's are OEM w/ no warranty also and they have 32 megs of the same speed ram. The core puts out more horse power(barely) but the problem is with memory bandwidth. Also the Radeon's have more features and far superior image quallity, and hardware DVD.

And yes the Radeons are more comfortable at high res's and 32bit. Especially with the 64 megs of ram.
