I just built a computer and I keep getting a small blue square in the center of my screen saying DPMS off mode???? I'm using an Abit KT7, Ati Radeon 32mb DDR, and a viewsonic A70. It's causing my apps and games to freeze and the monitor goes black. I 've never heard of this and need some help if possible.

Specs:
Athlon 800mhz socket A
Abit KT7
Ati Radeon 32mb DDR
128mb memory
SB Live Value
Viewsonic A70
win 98

Could it be a monitor problem? I assume you have all the newest drivers and such. I have a Duron 800 with that same mobo and I don't have that problem. I don't think it's the video card, but you might want to look into advanced properties for something that says DPMS just to make sure. Check the monitor settings too.

Regarding your problem with the monitor going black while running games: set your monitor to Super VGA in Display properties. Turn off power management in BIOS and in Windows. This helped me solve similar problems (DPMS means Display Power Management Signaling).
Also read the Radeon driver release notes, they're quite helpful.

Thanks for the help fellas. I disabled power management in both windows and BIOS but I'm still getting the same problem. Anything else I could try?
