You only buy a boxed kit, and some adobe & red tile color paints & a few brushes.

By the time you hit the store they'll probably only have very few remaining in stock, so you take what you can get.

If you do the sugar cube or popsicle stick thing it'll look terrible beside all the kits in class.

redgtxdi, WHich mission is closest to you???

It's just a project for parents to show off.

Why not have your daughter do most of it so she can learn something and be proud, instead of trying to impress your neighbors. ;)

FWIW, I could care less what others think. We just got back from Michael's and just bought foam board, glue, popsicle sticks and some odds & ends. About $30 total.

I found out my daughter's packet had specific instructions that NO STORE BOUGHT KITS were to be used. Oh well!!

I'm gonna keep it reeeeeeeeeeeeal simple! I'll be letting her do most of the work. I might just handle the cutting stuff as I'll probably use a utility knife. The tracing, pasting, etc. she can do herself.

:p

Styrofoam sheets for the walls.

Trace the outline, cut and glue together.
Popsicle sticks for the bell tower, and wooden structures

The textures will then already be ready for painting.

Modeling clay for the landscaping.

I remember using something like a giant foam poster board, paint some landscaping on to it, make a fence out of popcicle sticks and a building out of sugar cubes. Just get a hot glue gun and your all set.

The idea of using computer parts is awesome. Anyway, who cares what looks the best, it's all about creativity.

We just got done cutting out the basic structure. It's in the shape of an "L".

The long side has several arch openings that I'll have my daughter cut out. The short part is the face of the main church. Now we'll just have to cut out the bell towers.....(probably make 'em out of cardboard)......then find something half-round to cap the top of each bell tower. Then make some steps out of popsicle sticks.......(bought a thousand of those today. I'll never need popsicle sticks again) And ultimately I'll glue & stick-pin the foam walls together so they're fairly sturdy, then skin some cardboard for the roof & paint it red. That'll do 'er!

Geeet eerrrrr duuuuUUUuuunnnnnn!!!! :p
