I have a wireless network. At this time both computers are sitting side by side while I am trying to get Remote Desktop Connection to work.
I need help connecting a Remote Desktop Connection
I have 2 computers both with XP Pro
I haaave tried using either one as a RDC and the other as remote
I cant get either to connect completely
I have read that port, I think it was 3389 but I cant rember right now
but when I looked in the register the correct port number was there
I have disabled windows firewall with no help
I think window firewall would allow RDC with no problem
I have also setup both computers to be able to be connect remotely.
Files can be transferred from either computer to the other.
Just cant get RDC to work. I want to be able to see and control several cameras from a
remote computer.

This is the procedure I use when trying to run RDC.
If anyone can see something wrong with this ,please let me know.
Thanks for any help

1. cllick on remote desktop connection
2 Next screen says Remote desktop Connection
Computer 192.168.2.4
Then the choices are [connect] [cancel] [help] [Options]
3. I then click on connect
4. Next screen At the very top of the screen there is a white bar that has
written in 192.168.2.4 - +
Then in the center of the screen there is box that says [Log on to Windows]
[Username: bat ]
[Password :]
5 I then type in the password that was used when RDC was first set up.
6.The received a log on message:
7.The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are correct.
8. Then I just keep repeating this each time I try to log on.
9. The log on settings for RDC is as follows
Computer: 192.168.2.4
Username: bat
Password: ******
Domain : MSHOME
Then the choices are [Connect] [close][help] [options]

Thanks again for any help

You are actually connecting to the remote computer if you are getting to step 4.

try changing the domain to the actual name of the computer you are trying to connect to, unless you are actually working in a domain environment, which it doesnt appear to be I think you are using a workgroup environment.

I believe you would have to setup a local account with password on each machine. When you connect and it asks for username and password, you would put in that account you made and it will open a session which is what you will be interfacing with.

Can't believe i forgot to mention that. Also remember if you are creating a local account on that machine and they aren't an administrator, make sure to add them to the Remote Desktop Users group.

Get Ultr@VNC from sourceforge. You can use it to host on XP Home computers, and its 100% more configurable than RD.

one thing you can check for RD is to make sure your pc's are listening on port 3389.

("netstat -a" (or maybe "/all" instead of "-a") on the command line.

also use an admin username and password that is already on the host. There must be a password on the account.
