I have an Abit KT7 mobo (non-RAID) and i just replaced my 128MB RAM with 3 sticks of 256MB RAM from DELL(micron tech type). since installing them, my computer always freezes before the desktop icons would even show up and most of the time, it gives me the blue screen of death (vxd errors, etc.)
So i tried to remove 1 256MB stick and it works. i tested each of the three sticks and they all work. so i'm thinking the mobo must be the problem. it says in the manual that it supports upto 1.5GB of RAM, so why does it give an error when i install just 768MB?

=====================================
here's my system info:
AbitKT7 (non-RAID)
AMD Duron 700MHz overclocked to 900MHz (very very stable before i installed the new RAMs!)
3 x 256MB PC133 micron tech RAM
20GB Maxtor 5400rpm
10GB Quantum 7200rpm
Windows 98
250W SH powersupply

thanks.

Yea, I just upgraded from 256mb to 768mb and have been having all kinds of lockup/BS/and even restart issues. Just removed 256mb stick a couple hours ago and everything seems fine now.

Just stick to 512mb, according to a ram useage guage, my sytem never uses more than 300mb anyway.

Win9x can't effectively utilize that much RAM, and won't even run right with over 512mb without patching (as said above, search the MS Knowledge Base for the exact procedure). Your hardware is fine.

If you're going to be running that much RAM and such, you should really upgrade to Win2k or XP...

I think you need registered memory to fill more than two slots. Also, overclocking with that many slots filled doesn't work well. Try setting it to spec speed [*gasp*]

I have that board and in order to use 3 sticks you need to go to advanced chipset features in the bios and change the "delay DRAM read latch" from auto to a higher setting E.G. 1.0ns or 1.5ns ;) edit: I've used 3 256mb sticks in the KT7 with win98se and perhaps win98se doesn't make use of that much ram but the many other programs you run from within the O.S. will eat it up, believe me.I've had all but 42mb or so allocated to apps with that config.
