ok, here we go...

comp A is connected to the net
comp B is connected to comp A

both comps are using win2k

the internet connection is shared using win2k ics

im trying to irc from comp B, connecting to Efnet but its not working, i keep getting errors from the Efnet servers telling me to install identd, which i belif comes built-into mirc.

can someone suggest a fix for this?

thanx :)

identd requires that you be able to run a server (of sorts). It's possible Computer A is not letting that happen.

I have the same problem due to an annoying proxy in my complex.

Check this thread. While doesn't describe exactly what you want to do, it is similar in topic. Scroll down a ways and you will see what pr0ts you should enable for IRC functions.

Since I have almost zero experience with networking, I can't help you personally. ;)

Good luck

Well identd usually runs on port 6667. So, the way to check is to see if Computer B is even actually sending packets over that port when you try to connect, and if it is, then you just need to port forward between the two computers. If not, then you need to find yourself a good identd client :)

P.S. The identd client should run on the computer that is connected to the net.
