oops hit the enter key to quick, ok-

I have a new HD with nothing on it (seagate barracuda IV 80gig) so i set the primary partition to 70gb and a extended one to 6gb and whatever was left by using fdisk command.

ok after i do that it says to restart so i do and then it brings me back to the A:/ prompt, so i type formatc: and it keeps saying "invalid media reading drive C:" "abort retry or fail?"
I have the startup disk in A:/ and when i take it out and just try booting it, it says "no operating system" so what the heck can i do?

do you have win xp? you can format it with the install disk.
Not only XP, but 2000, ME, and 98se can all do this. boot off the cd and partition/format from within setup. only thing to keep in mind is if you do this from windows xp setup, it will automatically format any partition larger than 32gb in NTFS vs FAT32. This doesn't really matter to most people though. I may be wrong, but I believe the reason you're having trouble is because either DOS or FAT32 partitions are not capable of identifying drives that large. One more thing... what exactly do you need a 6GB extended partition for??

make sure your boot order lists the cdrom first in your bios....you can usually enter the bios by hitting del or F1 or F2 on startup (may need to play around-depends on your mobo...

Ok, i got my Win Xp corprate edition working on it, for some reason that works but the win ME doesn't.......but i try the win ME on this computer and the splash screen comes up and everything, whats this NFTS file system though? it better than fat32? (I play lots of games, etc) Also if its not as good can i possibly after i get winxp installed somehow install win me over it?

Ok, i got my Win Xp corprate edition working on it
Mmhmm...

And if you're playing a lot of games, go with 98, 2k or xp, not Me (personal preference)

bumpy, i got the windows xp working on it for now, schweet, one thing i don't like bout xp is that you can't play some older games, maybe i give this xp a whirl though. also how do you turn off the "auto update" thing?
