Hi Everyone,

I have an odd problem. I currently have a couple of internal hard drives that Im trying to transfer data to and from. Odd thing is if I drag and drop large files (Those in excess of say 1gig) halfway through the transfer my computer locks up and the screen blocks out. Happens everytime. I cant get the data off the hard drive onto the other drive. Ive run checkdisk, scanned for viruses, checked the connections, nothing. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Not enough information. What OS, what type of HDD interface, file format structure being used (FAT/NTFS), how full are the HDDs (eg, you may be having to cache to page file for the transfer particularly if low on RAM, but there is insufficient disk space). Also if using IDE ensure that they are set to DMA and the highest number possible (eg, 5).

Try this, back up the system (just in case), establish a restore point and in device manager, delete (ie, uninstall) the ATA Controller(s) the HDDs are on then reboot. (Dont worry, the system will find them and reinstall them. Often this fixes some problematic settings or issues associated typically with IDE controllers - resets some parameters.)

Also remember that FAT32 limitation is 4Gb.

For large transfers like you are doing I use either Unstoppable Copier (cute kitty icon) or Fastcopy. I've used Teracopy in the past with success as well.
